American Foam Cast Sustainability
Lost Foam Casting Offers Significant Cost and Environmental Advantages
American Foam Cast is dedicated to improving our services and facility’s sustainability. Lost foam casting, in and of itself, consumes far less water and energy than other casting processes, leaving less of a carbon footprint. No chemically bonded sand, no sand cores, no water additions to the molding sand–only dry, unbonded synthetic mullite as a molding media. The Lost Foam Casting process has been the subject of extensive research as a manufacturing method that offers significant cost and environmental advantages.
The lost foam casting process (LFCP) uses much less energy and material compared to other casting methods, and it offers far better labor productivity and cost savings as well. What takes other methods, multiple different castings, and later assemblies, LFCP can often be produced in just a single casting. This improves energy efficiency by reducing the number of steps involved in the process, reduces material consumption necessary to make the product, and leads to much less secondary processing and, ultimately, cost savings for you, the customer!
American Foam Cast was developed from the ground up as a company dedicated to lost foam casting. Therefore, we’ve been able to carefully plan our facility to be as efficient and successful as possible. That includes using tested methods and materials throughout the facility to produce castings with better dimensional accuracy and reduce waste.
We also take additional steps–to date, 100% of the aluminum that we pour is recycled, and we are always looking for ways to improve our facility’s environmental impact and safety.
